Current Closures and Maintenance

We occasionally need to close certain areas to perform checks and maintenance procedures. Other times we are changing exhibitions or taking a break away. Check here for any planned closures.

We may sometimes need to close areas or exhibits to give them some TLC. Many of our operating collection are irreplaceable heritage items, such as the Pumphouse, which need regular maintenance.
Where possible, we try to schedule maintenance work during quiet periods to minimise disruption to visitors.

CURRENT CLOSURES:

  • MOTAT's Tram service will finish slightly early for three days at the end of the month – from Tuesday 30 May to Thursday 1 June – for maintenance and repair work. The last tram from Great North Road will be 2.55pm; and 3.05pm from the Aviation Hall for the three days of works.

  • From April 3, Building 5 will be unavailable to visitors until April 2024 when our new science and technology centre opens. Some other areas will also be temporarily affected see here for more detail.

  • Please note: Steamed Cafe is undergoing a change of operator and will reopen on Tuesday 30 May.

  • Food Trucks will be at MOTAT for Live Day: Steam (Sunday 21 May).
