Located just 10 minutes drive from the Auckland CBD via the North Western Motorway, MOTAT is easy get to whether you’re travelling by car, bus, train, or bike. We recommend planning your journey with Google Maps.
MOTAT has two sites located close to each other in the beautiful Te Wai Ōrea Western Springs Precinct, with a free tram service that takes you between the two sites.

We are open daily, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
Last entry permitted into the museum at 3:30 PM.
MOTAT is open on all public holidays except Christmas Day.

MOTAT is committed to developing and improving access to MOTAT for all.
Many of MOTAT’s public spaces are accessible, but as we are an operational museum spread over a large area with varying terrain, unfortunately not all areas are suitable for wheelchair access.
Unfortunately, our heritage trams at MOTAT are not accessible to people who use wheelchairs.
