MOTAT has two sites located close to each other in the beautiful Te Wai Ōrea Western Springs Precinct. A free tram service takes you between the two sites.
We recommend visitors travelling by car start their visit here. There is a car park with 155+ car park spaces adjacent to the entrance for your convenience. Parking fees apply of $2 per hour up to a maximum charge of $8. MOTAT Motions Road is home to our award-winning Aviation Hall, full of marvelous aircraft and stories of the machines and the people who flew them. See influential aircraft from New Zealand's rich aviation history up close and personal.
It's also where you will experience our rail and steam rail collection in operation on Live Days every third Sunday of the month.
MOTAT Great North Road is home to the historic Pumphouse and plenty of other exhibition spaces and experiences to keep everyone entertained, inspired and curious. It's also where our cafe and playgrounds are located.
Car park 3 Western Springs is right next to the MOTAT Aviation Hall at 98 Motions Road, Western Springs. Parking fees apply. We recommend visitors travelling by car start their visit by parking here and travelling by our free tram service between our two locations. There are 155+ car park spaces and additional car parking in the area with Car park 1 Western Springs outside Auckland Zoo and Car park 2 Western Springs in front of Tapac on Motions Road. There is some free parking in the area too.
Car park fees are $2 per hour, but charges are capped at $8, regardless of length of stay. The parking charges apply from 9am to 5pm. The parking meter is located next to the pedestrian crossing leading to the Aviation Hall.
At MOTAT Great North Road there is limited street parking on Stadium Road and across the road to the right of the Caltex station. These are free car parking spaces.
MOTAT Aviation Hall: Mobility parking spaces are located right in front of the entrance. Enter from 98 Motions Road. No pre-booking required.
MOTAT Great North Road: Bookings are required for mobility car parking which is within the grounds. Read about how to book a mobility car park space here.
Located just 10 minutes drive from the Auckland CBD via the North Western Motorway, MOTAT is easy to find when you take the St Lukes Road off-ramp, Exit 6. We recommend planning your journey with Google Maps:
Bike racks are provided at both sites.
At MOTAT Great North Road, they are located at the entry of Stadium Road, at Motions Road they are at the entrance to the Aviation Hall. These are Locky Docks which require a transport card such as an AT Hop Card to secure your bike, but you do not need to bring your own lock thanks to the technology in these racks.
