We are looking up this July at MOTAT!

Did you know that outer space has weather?

It sure does! Space particles have the potential to impact our power systems, technologies, communications and more. The sun may be helpful at times, but it can equally be as harmful.

Powered by Tūhura Otago Museum, Solar Tsunamis - Parawhenua Kōmaru takes a closer look at solar flares, circuitry, and the "weather" effect the sun has for us on Earth.

Get hands-on with magnets, play with a plasma ball, generate your own electricity and create an aurora. Plus learn about electro-magnetism, geomagnetic storms and so much more!

Solar Tsunamis - Parawhenua Kōmaru is a hands and minds-on experience showcasing how space weather poses risks to our way of life. Full of fun and facts for the whole whānau, this is a chance to learn how an international research collaboration led by the University of Otago is preparing Aotearoa New Zealand’s response to a hazard that is out of this world.

Please note: Photography and filming may take place on the day for marketing purposes.
