Step back in time and experience the craft of traditional printing with a hands-on introduction to letterpress.
Have you ever wondered how books, newspapers, and printed materials were produced before computers and digital printers?
Step back in time and experience the craft of traditional printing with a hands-on introduction to letterpress in MOTAT's own working Printshop.
Get your hands inky and create your own bespoke printed work while learning this timeless skill. Letterpress was the dominant printing method for over a thousand years, from its origins in China through to Johannes Gutenberg's revolutionary printing press in the 1450s.
In this unique workshop, you'll create a set of personalised greeting cards using a heritage printing press. Guiding you through the experience will be MOTAT volunteer, Graham Judd, one of New Zealand's foremost letterpress educators.
During the workshop you'll gain a practical foundation in traditional letterpress printing and explore basic typography, composition, layout and printing techniques.
No prior experience is required - just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
Strictly limited to just 10 people per workshop, so book now.
