Adopt Tram No.248
AdoptHelp preserve a pivotal piece of Auckland’s transport history by adopting Tram No. 248, one of the sleek ‘Streamliners’ built in 1938 at the Auckland Transport Board’s workshops in Royal Oak. As the last type of tram constructed for the Auckland Tramway, Tram No. 248 served the city until 1956, marking the end of an era in Auckland’s public transport history, when it played a key role in the ceremonial 'Last Tram Procession' up Queen Street.
In 1957, Tram No. 248 became the final tram to be powered on Auckland’s tramway system. After its service ended, it was transported to Matakohe in Northland on the back of a truck for preservation by the founders of MOTAT.
Now 86 years old, Tram No. 248 is a symbol of Auckland’s tramway legacy. By adopting this historic tram, you’ll help ensure its continued preservation and showcase the Streamliner’s role in our city’s past.
