E ono tekau tau o MOTAT Sixty years of MOTAT focuses on key moments in MOTAT’s extraordinary history, illustrated through the Walsh Memorial Library collection.

The exhibition gives insight into MOTAT’s formation within Te Wai Ōrea Western Springs, the foundations that were laid, and MOTAT’s site development and expansion over the past 60 years.

The historic Pumphouse, aviation, rail, and tram sections feature alongside more recent additions including Te Kōtiu, all illustrating how MOTAT has remained the place to experience technology and science with a hands-on, minds-on approach since 1964.

The exhibition draws on our rich archive of images, film, and oral histories to tell our own history, including the arrival of some of our most iconic collection items such as the flying boats, the Lancaster, and Wellington trams. You’ll also see objects such as signed Jean Batten prints and visitor books.
