You've Booked - What To Do Now

  • Organise your adult supervisors. MOTAT requires a ratio of 1 adult to 6 students for school visits and 1 adult to 3 children for ECE visits. This is to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

  • Distribute a Trip Permission form to your students' caregivers.

  • You can book a pre-visit to MOTAT, hosted by one of our Educators, by emailing bookings@motat.org.nz

  • Please note pre-visits must be booked in advance, and are available between the hours 2.30 - 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday.

Planning your visit

What to do in the week before your visit

  • A MOTAT Educator will email you to discuss your programme details and learning goals. Please collect information about learning goals and any students with additional needs for all classes attending the trip and forward this information to your Educator.

  • Confirm your transport and adult supervisors.

  • You will receive a timetable for your visit from MOTAT Bookings (bookings@motat.org.nz). Each class will have an education session, breaks for eating, and time to explore MOTAT. A tram ride will be scheduled and shown on your timetable if this was arranged at the time of booking.

What to do before you leave school

  • Make copies of your timetable, Adult Supervisor form and the MOTAT map to give to all adult helpers.

  • Complete the Emergency form. Keep this with you during your trip in case of an emergency.

  • Ensure you have your numbers information ready for your educator (number of students in each year level, total number of adults on the trip and how many 1:1 students)

What to do on arrival at MOTAT

  • If your confirmation email states Gate C, Stadium Road as your drop off point, press the ‘Education’ button on the intercom once your whole group has arrived and your Educator will come out to greet you.

  • If your confirmation email gives 98 Motions Road as your drop off point, your educator will meet you out the front of the Aviation Hall.

  • Your Educator will give you a health and safety briefing, then escort you to a meeting/lunch space where your group can store their bags. The educator will then run through your timetable and answer any questions.

  • Your Educator will ask you for the number of adult helpers you've brought with you and the number of students at each year level (e.g. how many year twos and how many year threes). Please have this information ready for when you arrive.

In Case of an Emergency

  • MOTAT is a significant organisation, comprised of several buildings which meet the Auckland City Council requirements for safety and hygiene.

  • As a public venue and a place of employment, MOTAT seeks, and is required to be fully compliant with Occupational Safety and Health regulations. Staff attend monthly Health and Safety meetings.

  • Behaviour expectations are made explicit to school groups during their Health and Safety briefing.

  • The MOTAT Tramway operates as a public transport service and as such is subject to stringent safety regulations.
MOTAT staff have been trained in the event of an emergency.

  • Accident and Emergency Protocol
Please immediately report any accidents to the MOTAT shop or to your Educator.

If an injury occurs that warrants an ambulance, one will be called. However, if an ambulance is refused, MOTAT is not responsible for transporting people to the hospital. For this reason, please ensure that you have your own transport available to you.

In case of an emergency evacuation, please follow all instructions from MOTAT emergency staff.

If evacuated, please assemble all groups from your school at Cropper House Lawn (outside the Cafe building) and let your educator know if there is anyone missing from your group.
