Tram No.47

Adopt

Step aboard history by adopting Tram No. 47, the last surviving double-decker tram from Wellington’s iconic fleet! Built in 1906 by Rouse, Black & Son, this grand tram carried up to 100 passengers and was a familiar sight on Wellington streets from 1907 to 1954.

After its service as a passenger tram, it became a ‘works tram,’ maintaining the overhead lines of the Hataitai tram tunnel until 1962.

Lovingly restored at MOTAT, Tram No. 47 returned to service in 2010 and has since become a favourite with visitors, especially during the summer months. Known as ‘Big Ben’ for its impressive size, it’s the last of its kind and a proud symbol of Wellington’s rich transport heritage.

By adopting Tram No. 47, you’ll help preserve this unique piece of history for future generations.
