Tram No.135
AdoptJoin us in preserving a piece of Wellington’s rich transport heritage by adopting Tram No. 135, a beautifully restored Mark I ‘Double Saloon’ tram. Built in 1921 at the Wellington City Corporation’s Kilbirnie workshops, Tram No. 135 was one of 69 trams designed with enclosed saloons at each end and an open centre, which was later enclosed in the 1930’s to provide more comfort for passengers.
This popular tram served Wellington’s streets until 1957, and thanks to MOTAT’s meticulous restoration, it now boasts its original livery and configuration. The Mark I design was so beloved that a Mark II version was later built, with some trams in service until 1963.
Now 103 years old, Tram No. 135 stands as a testament to the golden age of public transport. By adopting this tram, you’ll help keep its legacy alive and our tramway open for future generations to experience and enjoy.
