Tram No.11
AdoptStep back in time and become part of history by adopting Tram No. 11. Built in Great Britain and shipped out in kitset form with Auckland’s first 43 trams, No.11 was the very first tram unpacked and reassembled in Auckland ready for Auckland's brand-new Tramway service in 1902! This iconic tram faithfully served the city for 50 years, from its first journey on 24th November 1902 until its final ride on 24th December 1952.
In 1952, Tram No. 11 was specially decorated for the Auckland tramway system's Golden Jubilee – 50 years of operation and became the beloved Farmers Free Tram. After retirement, it found a new life as a classroom at Auckland Zoo before being generously donated to MOTAT in 1972, where it now resides as a symbol of our city’s rich transport heritage.
At 122 years old, Tram No. 11 is a true survivor and a remarkable piece of Auckland’s past. By adopting this tram, you’ll help keep the tramway open, preserve No. 11’s legacy and keep it on the track for future generations to enjoy. Don’t miss this chance to be part of our city’s story – adopt Tram No. 11 today!
