More to explore these school holidays

There is plenty of fantastic fun for everyone these school holidays with minds-on and hands-on activities across both MOTAT locations.

While you are here, be in to win a MOTAT Mates annual membership and STEM kit, simply by sharing a selfie or pic of you and your whānau enjoying the holidays at MOTAT.

Just use #MOTATMOMENTS and post your pic to go in the draw. Our visitor hosts love taking selfies in front of the new selfie wall in Te Puawānanga - take a snap here or find your fave spot at the museum.

If you are already a MOTAT Mate and are drawn as a winner, your existing membership will be extended. Let’s see those pearly whites!

Ts & Cs apply.

All school holiday activities are included in General Admission.
Please note: there may be filming and/or photography taken for marketing purposes.

Te Puawānanaga Science and Technology Centre

There is more to explore with Te Puawānanga, our new science and technology centre! With three distinct spaces to experience, tamariki can surround themselves with the magic of more science, more technology and hands-on exhibitions.

There is a new play space for under 5s, a science space for engaging experiences, and an innovation space with everything from STEM demonstrations to collection displays.

This July, create stunning whetū "stars" in the Science Alive Te Manawa Magic Box, using weaving, lashing and knot techniques. What designs can you make?

Come and discover everything this new science and technology space has to offer.

Solar Tsumani EXH FP

Solar Tsunamis - Parawhenua Kōmaru

Did you know that outer space has weather?

It sure does! Space particles have the potential to impact our power systems, technologies, communications and more. The sun may be helpful at times, but it can equally be as harmful.

Powered by Tūhura Otago Museum, Solar Tsunamis takes a closer look at solar flares, circuitry, and the "weather" effect the sun has for us on Earth.

Get hands-on with magnets, play with a plasma ball, generate your own electricity or create an aurora. Plus learn about electro-magnetism, geomagnetic storms and so much more.

16 June - 31 July in the Discovery Dome.

Energy Machine FP

LIVE DAY: Energy

LIVE DAYs are fun and interactive. Filled with learning and play, and perfect for the whole whānau!

There will be plenty of LIVE DAY classics, plus some special energy-themed activities. Keep an eye out for more info.
